Overall Company & Game Updated

So I am taking time away from my Kickstarter Research and Planning to make sure all of our wonderful players get an inside scoop on what changes we have made in the past couple of months, and the general plan moving forward.

frog-157205_1280My goal is to get each of you excited about what had changed, even more excited about what is coming up, and to give you a place to tell us why you appreciate or hate what we have done (I appreciate all kinds of criticism).

That said, I want to thank Cellbuster for reminding me that we needed to keep the “state of the company” blog posts going with all the hundreds of other tasks our team needs to update and fix during the next few months to get the communication in the game going more smoothly.

What our goals are before the end of the year

  • Now that I let it slip multiple times… How many of you would like to create your own quests and comps?  We are in the planning stages of an opening source code and an User Interface (Content Creation Tools) that would allow for players of any experience level to give other players a new experience.
  • Weekly Competitions to keep you engaged each week are planned out for the next 3 months!
  • Creating Beginner Booster Quests, thanks for this idea you guys we love implementing good player ideas!
  • Creating Mainstream Quests that don’t require specific professions to begin or complete.
  • You asked for them, and we listened, Ship “Deeds” are coming soon!
  • Sick of seeing Crimes you can’t do currently?  We are working on removing those as well!
    • This will also happen for quests at some point in the future.
  • Since the Wiki isn’t really a player edited wiki, soon you will see it as the “Tome of Secrets”
  • Overhaul the user interface in Arena then move it to the main server.
    • We will be using Joomla for an easier user experience.  This should allow us to make site wide updates much faster via the CSS and other things I really know nothing about much more quickly.  Don’t worry, just because I don’t know why it takes so long to make changes to archaic code currently, Dath and the Devs sure do & this will really help us get you guys a better player experience!
  • Fix the Facebook & G+ Login issues, I am also tired of being booted out every time I login with my FB link.
  • Don’t you ever wonder why you can’t bribe a dirty guard to let you out of Jail sooner?  I did too and so I bribed the Devs to allow guards to be bribed as well.  Now if you guys will bribe me well enough, I will get this put to the top of our lists 😉
  • So how many of you have said that the game really is hard for new players.  When I first started tinkering with the game a couple of months ago I did too.  In fact I was so frustrated I never made it out of the training docs or finished the initial training… well that and I was getting my team trained to do awesome things for our players social experience.  After much confusion, many tears, and a few pokes, we have everyone focused on Creating a New Player experience!  This will of course include:
    • City Guards
    • Player Guides emailed as you pass certain points in the game.
    • Communication Team Engagement with our players, like giving you more tavern time and working quickly to get your emails to us responded to, and at some point a player based Master/Mentor system!
  • Quest improvements!  Now that our GM isn’t focused on Support Tickets (you can thank Vane and Skahz for that) Master Solemus can focus more heavily on Quest improvements to bring game stories to you even faster!
  • The biggest update which we hope to launch before the end of the year, but NEED HUGE PLAYER SUPPORT FOR will be DEVELOPMENT FOR A MOBILE APP!!!!  Our ability to do this will depend greatly on you guys, and how much you really want it to happen.  In fact I am getting a Kickstarter Campaign put together to make sure we get this done as quickly as possible and we will need you guys to spread the word so we can hit the ground running from day one!

Happy PirateWe hope you guys are as excited about these updates and goals as we are.  I should have a weekly blog post put out every Friday (starting in November) laying out what we have accomplished during the week, and what we hope to have complete during the coming week so you guys aren’t left in the dark hoping some day things might get better, but rather keep you excited that there is some real momentum and updates coming quickly!

Please leave a comment with your thoughts here 😀

Antarctic Casino

As the pirates head after Taru’el and Ash’erah, they notice a sheltered cove with a stone quay. A variety of ships are docked there, including Bermuda sloops, Chinese junks, and even a Viking drekar. Captain Aubrey draws a knife and scores the stone of the quay. “Rhyolite,” he says. “A very sturdy rock.” Gesturing toward the vessels, Golden Eye says, “I’m a little more interested in finding out who these belong to.” lightchest says, “I say we continue our pursuit. It will likely lead us to some answers faster than looking around here.” Then he leads the way into the passage in the cliff taken by their adversaries.

Get a Frozen Heart for Yourself!

Get a Frozen Heart for Yourself!

After passing through a narrow defile, the ice cliffs lead to a cave.  The pirates look at one another, and Maharg shouts, “Last one in is a rotten penguin egg!”  He disappears into the opening. Mister Morganis follows him, but stops short and waits for his eyes to adjust to the darkness. Meanwhile, a loud thump is heard followed by cursing and a groan.  Mister Morganis sniggers, then looks back with a straight face and says, “The fool.”

The Pope ventures inside slowly, saying, “As we have witnessed, these premises merit caution. Let us proceed at a prudent pace. Watch thy heads.” Not far in, lanterns illuminate the path. The group passes stalactites, stalagmites, and soda straws which decorate splendid galleries of stone and glassy pools of clear water. After a short walk, they reach a wooden door.  capnbigc thrusts his way forward while the rest hesitate. He says, “No use standin’ ‘round like a bunch o’ sissies,” and throws open the door.

The pirates slowly enter a large well-lit chamber, full of noise. There are people of all ethnicities standing or sitting at tables while they play games of chance. A bar lines one side of the room, and servants wearing pale blue shifts belted with white sashes provide drinks to patrons. Similarly-dressed servants are found at intervals throughout the establishment, and some appear to be armed. One of the more innocuous-looking servants approaches: a young woman of pale hair and paler skin. She smiles as she asks, “May I assist you in finding a table? What is your game of preference?” She is met by confused stares. “Why don’t you start at the banquet hall? Food and drinks are available to suit any taste.”

Red Beard steps toward her. “Pardon me, my dear. We’re not from around here—”  “And no one else seems to be, either!” interrupts Groany. “Why are all these people here?” She replies, “We serve the Illustrious Ones of all nations. They are invited here to engage in civilized contests of might and wagers of wit as they seek the betterment of their stewardship.”

Groany looks even more confused. He mutters, “…not sure that answers my question.” Red Beard addresses her again, “As I was sayin’, lass, we’re lookin’ fer the Icy Mistress o’ this land an’ her mate. Surely a dame as enchantin’ as ye can lead us in the right direction?”Starry Night Trophy

The young woman’s smile fades. “I will not answer questions of that nature. Perhaps you would do better to get the help of another.” Then she walks away.

Cpt Henna says, “Looks like your charm fell a little short there, Mr. Skullbearer!” His jest is met with a scowl. Lightchest suggests, “We need to find out what’s going on here, and where those two troublemakers are. Why don’t we split up? I’m sure one of us can find the way with the right persuasion.”

Ghostdemon says, “Do whatchya want, I’m hittin’ the trainin’ room!” and he dashes off toward an adjoining chamber full of weights and fighting dummies.

lightchest shakes his head and pays for some chips. He has a seat at a card table, slips his neighbor some gold, and asks, “So, what’s the news on these Taru’el and Ash’erah characters I’ve heard about? When do I get to meet them?”

Warlord Bane’s Generous Chest

Bane’s Brocas Helm

We figured it has been long enough that you have had to suffer with Bane and his crew running the show. We know, keeping this game afloat in the turbulent seas which is the internet has been terribly fun and rewarding for you.

The Admiral’s Serf-Stompers

Wondering how Admiral Dath might approve a change of things and finding that competitions are really looking like they will come more frequently?

How about believing that Captain Andrek really knows how to query a database, while loosing his attention and chasing SQLrs up and down the Sandy Beach of some ancient Deseret area.

Wang-Tei Tome of Solemus

Caring less about Master Solemus’ health, and hoping he again will become drunk enough to place everything on sale again, if only for more than three pitiful minutes.  Thinking talking like a pirate would level you up without posting videos for the whole community to see.

Andrek’s Anchor Shield

Joining into trivia and wishing for over powered winnings.  Getting over powered prizes from newb competitions and then having them yoinked because you knew in your heart it was just too good to be true, then not really complaining about how silly it was to post those mini event in the first place.

We could go on, but enough about how awesome we are, we are bringing you even more awesome by offering Legendary Loot when you click here on Warlord Bane’s Chest!

Ways to Earn Gold

We heard ye pockets were empty and yearning for some gold! We also heard you were having trouble getting gold so we decided to make it easy for you and just tell you how to get it.

Quests: It’s easy, do them, you get gold. Simple enough? Quests can offer anywhere from millions to sometimes billions in gold for completing them.
Crafting: Craft items that yield a high payout when selling them to the game and you can earn a good bit of gold really quickly just by crafting items you probably won’t need anyways. For example, at level 240 the crafting sub profession tailoring you learn the skill to make Suede Strap Boots. These need 8 strong thread to craft. Crafting and selling these back to the game gives you a value of 55,000,000 each. Do this 20 times and you have just earned 1.1 Billion gold.
Get your gang to control ports within the game. You get a large sum each hour for controlling ports and you also get rewarded during port takeovers.
Gamble Tavern: After you go to ‘Things To Do’ explore the Gamble Tavern as everything listed here is there to help gain resources.
• Any further questions could be directed towards the Tavern for player responses.

Something About Nassau

Throw Back To Some History On Nassau

Nassau Pirate Museum

Nassau Pirate Museum

Did ye know that Nassau used to be considered the Heart of Piracy?  Yes Pirates, the now resort vacation spot in the Bahama’s used to house the meanest, roughest, rapscallions alive.  Nassau was the pirates safe haven.  With organized black market trading and bay waters too shallow for the British and Spanish Man-O-Wars to enter to attack, Nassau became a right nice spot for the Republic of Pirates.

Ahoy Pirates! It is a Tips and Tricks Day and we want to give you a few tips and tricks to be used in the game!  Wanna level up faster?

  1. Go to “Pirate Search” on the “Things to Do” tab and begin searching for other pirates that ye can defeat.
  2. In the “Consideration” drop down, select Very Easy.
  3. Next move to the “Level” section and put your current level in for the low number and then put a level that is 50-100 levels higher in the maximum box.
  4. Deselect all ports and begin your search!

But be careful…sometimes you may need to train more to beat Very Easy Higher Level Pirates.

First Seas Gang Problems

Potential Gang Issues:

Ganging Up!

Ganging Up!

In Rule the Seas, players are encouraged to get their pirates into gangs quickly.  This is so they can participate in Gang competitions, and for some protection.  Though some have found that when you are in a gang that is too large, that the prizes will get watered down. Below is a response I offered a disgruntled player whom was upset that their prize didn’t seem good enough for their share of the gang’s winning, suggesting we needed to give them more after the prizes were won.   We would love to hear your opinions after you read our response.  Emphasis is to make reading easier on the blog.

Our Response was this:

It seems you were one of the lucky members of your gang.  Less than 54 items were given as a reward for this competition.  Part of being in a gang with a large number of members includes getting watered down rewards, or no reward at all.  If a Gang with 3 members won the competition, they would have been able to all have multiple rewards divided out among themselves.

What Does It Hold?

What Does It Hold?

We do not cater [competitions] to gang size, but create a specific amount of loot that will be divided up in gangs.  Think of it like a group winning a beach party, and they win a cooler filled with some prizes.  An iPhone 6, Headphones, 2 plastic drinking mugs, 3 camel-packs, and 10 candy bars.  There are 17 [18] items in the prize [including the cooler, but if you have 20 people in your group, not everyone will get an item during that competition.  As well offering out 20 iPhone 6’s [after the competition is done] just because one group decided to win due to sheer size isn’t realistic because that wasn’t the intended prize.

The group leader gets to determine who gets which prizes the iPhone, who gets the headphones, who gets a mug, who gets a camel-pack, who gets candy bars, and who is left out.  It isn’t the contest creator’s fault that a group decided to try and win with a number larger than the amount of gear being given out.  The group leader is responsible for determining who gets the items the group won.  Hence if you do not agree with what you received, you need to speak with [your group leader].
This is one of the challenging aspects of the game where gang members need to decide if it will be more profitable for them to remain in their gang or split off and form another one.

Those Candy Bars Could Be Split!!!

Give Me A Break... wrong bar...

Give Me A Break… wrong bar…

Of course in many scenarios you can simply split some of the prizes.  In some you simply can’t. In my personal opinion, having run a few MMO guilds, a leader that members want to follow, and would be willing to serve, is one that gives away their own personal stash as items come in during competitions that are won for the whole membership of the guild when some members are left lacking. We become an online family, where there are squabbles, and laughter.  Though we work to help each other become better and really enjoy the company of our other guild mates.  Your gang leaders will likely do everything they can to help your entire gang, or mutiny is the risk they run.

Our Current Solution Ideology

Our concern is that giving out extra prizes, after a competition is over, simply is favoring players outside of the game rules, and isn’t fair to all players on the server.  Having taken over the server from other Admins, whom seem to be notorious for giving their “friends” or “favorite pirates” bonuses, we are extremely cautious to make sure we are overly fair and side on the idea of correcting potential social problems moving forward, instead of correcting lack of foresight immediately.

As well Dath has made it clear, *… By saying, “Here’s the evidence we do have, I don’t see any evidence that you’re right and I don’t see any evidence that we’re wrong” we open it up for discussion and the possibility that we are wrong (which we might be!)… It makes it so we are looking for a right solution, not demanding that we have the right one. It allows us to rapidly change if we ARE wrong and allows them to change if they are.*

Simply put, we want to keep our players dignity and respect in tact.  In fact, one of the books that have taught me the most about this is, How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnagie.  I suggest you find a copy and read it soon 😀

Thank a Techie & Your Boyfriend!
